Japan introduces joint custody for divorced couples

Starting Wednesday, divorced couples in Japan can negotiate joint custody of their children, marking the first significant change to child-rearing laws in over a century. Previously, the Civil Code mandated that couples choose one parent for custody during divorce proceedings.
